Late last year I wrote about the wonderful baptism of a military police sergeant. Those were exciting days and it seemed that revival was breaking out of the upper room.
Yet, sad to say, that sergeant did not make it, spiritually speaking. A few short weeks later he was attracted away by some false prophetess that proclaimed pseudo-blessings on his life. The old sergeant truly had died out to sin, but the new sergeant “passed away” shortly after “birth”. Very disappointing.
We all learn, often the hard way, that life’s stations are made of times and seasons. Spring usually lasts but a few months; some seasons are very winter-like. Perhaps that explains the parable of the sower: not every seed will flourish.
However, in due season, the right season… the seed will grow! Expect it!
After the “passing” of the sergeant, a season of winter set into Missionary John-John’s ministry. As I watched him hunker down, leaning into the icy gusts, I worried about his spiritual stamina. Even so, the final blasts of winter wind brought few seeds bouncing along the ground… not much, but… Spring seemed to be arriving!
Suddenly, the season shifted! Another cop started coming to church a few weeks ago. Hardened by a rough life, one service night he was unusually moved by God’s soft touch and was baptized in Jesus Name. This last Sunday I saw that same tough cop on the floor “raptured away to the third heaven”. Oh, I almost forgot… in his police department, his position is the equivalent of a…
Sergeant!
But that is not all! That very same night, John-John, who is on occasion a volunteer firefighter, was urgently requested to cover the night shift of an undermanned station. After the Sunday night service, he signed in only to find but one other firefighter on duty. Worried about how the two of them would handle the calls by themselves… they settled in for a stressful night.
No emergency calls! None! While waiting for the bell to ring, John-John began witnessing to the only other fireman on duty. For SIX WHOLE HOURS John-John walked the man through the Bible! He promised to come to church this coming Sunday with his family. Oh, I almost forgot… he is a…
